Vilnius airport getting ready for passenger terminal reconstruction

Lietuvos Oro Uostai (Lithuanian Airports), the operator of Lithuania’s three international airports, plans to launch reconstruction of passenger terminal in the airport of Vilnius in 2017 and intends to invest approximately 5 million euros in the project, informs LETA/BNS.

According to Vilnius Airport CEO Arturas Stankevicius, the terminal is getting too small and needs to be expanded. Following the upgrade, the terminal’s annual capacity will increase to 5 million passengers, from current 3.5–4 million passengers.

“The number of boarding gates will be increased. We now have 10 gates and plan to increase their number to 14. Also, we’ll build an additional escalator to reach the border checkpoint when passengers are arriving. It’ll be more convenient for them as they’ll no longer need to walk along corridors. We’ll also enhance aviation security capacity. These works will not affect the functioning of the terminal in any way,” Stankevicius told BNS.

The works should be completed late in 2017 or early in 2018, he added.

Passenger traffic at the airport of Vilnius rose by 13.4% last year, to 3.34 million.
