The Estonian state commissions 6 movies for 8 million euros for the republic's 100th anniversary celebrations; the organising team of the Estonian Republic 100 events, culture ministry and Estonian Film Institute declared the winners of the contest on October 28th 2015, LETA/Postimees Online reports.

The Estonian Republic 100 film contest was announced in December 2012. The first round of the competition received 165 film ideas by June 2013, of which 17 were selected, Public Broadcasting reports.

Scripts were written for the selected 17 by October 2014, and 9 strongest of those were chosen. The creative development of the 9 films lasted exactly one year, or till the beginning of October by 2015. This week, after a seven hour discussion, 6 films were chosen that will go into production. For the directors of five films, this is their first full-length film project.

The six films include several historical films: a film based on part 1 of A. H. The list also includes "Take It or Leave It", which is placed in modern time and is directed by Liina Trishkina-Vanhatalo and animated movie "Lotte and Lost Dragons", directors Janno Põldma and Heiki Ernits.

The films should reach cinemas in 2017-2019.
