Tram line to Tallinn Airport to be ready in 2017

The design and construction procurement for extending the city of Tallinn tram network to reach the Tallinn Airport was won by a bid submitted by AS Merko Ehitus Eesti and KMG Inseneriehituse AS, who have to complete the object by the end of 2017, LETA/Postimees Online reports.

Merko informed the Tallinn Stock Exchange that according to the decision of Tallinn City Transport Company’s public procurement commission and the press release published today, AS Merko Ehitus Eesti – part of the AS Merko Ehitus group and KMG Inseneriehituse AS were announced as preferred bidders in the public procurement No 165878 „Airport tramline infrastructure design and construction“. The total value of the joint bid is approximately 11.5 million euros, plus value added tax. The valuation criteria was the lowest price.

 

The procurement contract will not be signed before 14 days after the announcement of the preferred bidder according to the Public Procurement Law. The bidders can dispute the decision according to the deadlines stated in the Public Procurement Law §121 but not after the procurement contract has been signed.

 

Under the contract the preferred bidders will construct a tunnel under the railway and Suur-Sõjamäe street starting at the u-turn near Ülemiste railway station and ending at Keevise street, followed by a new tram line extension along Keevise street to airport territory, where a u-turn will be constructed. Additionally a new substation will be constructed to power the trams. All works will be carried out during 2016 and 2017.
