Over EUR 100 mln allocated for Baltic Sea Region cooperation

The European Commission has adopted a new transnational cooperation Interreg program for the Baltic Sea Southern Region, informs LETA/ELTA.

Coastal regions of Denmark, Germany, Lithuania, Poland and Sweden participate in the program, which is worth EUR 102 million, EUR 83 million of which is guaranteed by the European Regional Development Fund.

 

The major part of the program is investment and measures for environmental protection dedicated to reduce pollution in the Baltic Sea. The program will also provide assistance to natural and cultural heritage protection, seeking to develop sustainable tourism in the region.

 

The program will help enhance ecological transport services and improve transport links in the Southern Baltic region.
