Lithuania's c.bank doubts whether Luminor properly controls situation

BC, Vilnius, 24.07.2020.Print version
The central Bank of Lithuania has doubts the Luminor bank is properly controlling the situation after one of the country's largest bank's operation was partly affected by the recent failure of the Center of registers' systems, reported

The Bank of Lithuania's Supervision Service said on Friday it had asked Luminor to explain how it ensures its operation and protects clients from possible disruptions, the central bank told LETA/BNS.

"The Bank of Lithuania finds it unacceptable that Luminor faces fairly frequent operation disruptions when the bank is not capable of properly ensuring the continuity of provision of all financial services to its clients," the central bank said.

According to the Bank of Lithuania, Luminor often fails to inform clients about disruptions, take necessary measures to protect them and avoid possible losses.

On Wednesday, the central bank received numerous complaints from Luminor clients over the bank's operation.

Luminor said on Wednesday its clients could not use their mobile signature to access their online or mobile banking services.

Luminor says it uses a mobile signature solution that is directly linked to the Center of Registers, and not to mobile phone operators. The Center of Registers restored the provision of the e-signature service to the bank on Thursday night.

Other major banks in Lithuania say their clients have not faced similar problems.
