Nord Stream conducted lobby-work in Estonia

The meeting of Estonian Prime Minister Andrus Ansip with Nord Stream head Matthias Warning in April 2012, that received a lot of publicity, was not the first meeting they had; until last week, the public did not know about the meeting of Ansip and Warning at a concert at the Estonia Concert Hall last autumn, LETA/Äripäev.ee reports.

At the meeting last September that was organised by Nord Stream, Ansip was given materials that the developers of the gas pipeline hoped would bring round the Estonian government that has so far been critical of cooperation. The meeting took place at the concert of Baltic Youth Philharmonic, which is sponsored by Nord Stream, on September 4 last year, where Nord Stream's CEO Matthias Warnig gave the prime minister papers on sea environment surveillance monitoring, that later were given to the environment ministry. For some reason, Nord Stream wished for these documents to reach the environment ministry sent by the prime minister, not directly from Nord Stream.

In April this year, Nord Stream's representatives, led by Warnig, came to see Ansip again. ERR news portal mediated Ansip's words before the meeting that the gas pipeline has not turned out to be as scary as was feared and the representatives of the company promised that they would be open for talks over a possible third and fourth pipeline.

Ansip mentioned the meeting that took place in September last year while answering inquiring of Centre Party MPs last week in the Riigikogu.
