Students: Lithuania will have fewer higher education institutions by 2030

BC, Vilnius, 17.10.2014.Print version
The Lithuanian National Union of Students has presented their higher education vision, which sees Lithuania reducing the number of higher education institutions and universities by 2030, informs LETA/ELTA.

The students say that the trend of reducing will be driven by a competition in the internal higher education field and the need to improve the quality of studies, which is only possible by consolidating the resources of higher education institutions.

A smaller number of universities would allow increasing the flexibility of studies; a higher education institution would have more study fields, while students would be offered more study subjects.

The Union also says that in 2030 students will have more freedom to shape their personal study workload: to decide how long their studies will be, how many modules will be covered in a semester, increase the number of optional subjects, etc.
