The new accreditation regulations for higher education establishments will prevent funding poor quality study programs from the state budget, Education and Science Minister Roberts Kilis emphasized during a press conference today.

Kilis said that, in accordance with the Supreme Education Council's assessment, study programs will be reassessed by the end of the year, weeding out those that will not receive state funding. As an example, he mentioned Kilis mentioned management sciences, where 136 programs are being implemented, many of which have been recognized as of poor quality, writes LETA.

The minister believes that budget funds should be focused on those higher education institutions where such programs are implemented in a quality manner and there sufficient resources to do so.

As reported, the government will decide on accreditation regulations for higher education establishments during its session today.
