The students are marching around the building and yelling various chants - ''There is not state without education!'' and ''Let us build, not destroy!''.

The students have placed several ''presents'' for Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis (Unity) outside the building.

As LETA was previously informed by Latvian Academy of Culture student Marta Cirule, who is one of the organizers of the demonstration, about 1,300 students are planned to participate in the event.

However, LETA has observed that the number of demonstrators is substantially higher at the moment.

Today's demonstration by students outside the Cabinet building, which has gathered over 6,000 students, will continue if necessary, LETA was informed by the chairman of the Latvian Student Association Eduards Ratnieks.

''This is only the beginning. The students are prepared to continue voicing their point of view. We completely surrounded the Cabinet building today, where education financing is decided on. I believe that this is symbolic,'' Ratnieks added.

The head of the student association pointed out that the number of demonstrators today could have reached 8,000, and that it only took two day to coordinate the demonstration.

The demonstration is gradually dispersing at the moment.
