| Ain Kallis. |
Kallis said in an interview to Kuku radio that when all the snow starts melting at once and there is rain also, bad things can be expected to happen. He said that there are plenty of cases in history when after a winter with abundant snow, there have been big floods. For example in the spring of 1931, 2% of Estonian land was under water.
Kallis added that there hasn’t been an above-zero degree day in Estonia for 56 days in a row but in Southern Estonia, up to plus 2 degrees is forecast for today.
The cold period of this year is on the third place in length in Estonia’s recorded weather observations history.
Kallis warned that currently, the snow hasn’t become a very big threat for roofs of buildings but the situation can change when sleet which is much heavier than snow, comes.
