Ivars Kalvins elected president of Latvian Academy of Sciences

Chemist Ivars Kalvins has been elected the president of the Latvian Academy of Sciences today, reported LETA.

He was elected with 136 votes out of 186.


Kalvins promised to introduce a number of changes to make the academy modern and contemporary center of excellence in science by strengthening ties with business organizations, engage young members of the academy in work of the academy's structure.


Another candidate for the position was physicist Andrejs Silins.
