Riga State Gymnasium No. 1 tops Star Ranking of Latvia's schools

Riga State Gymnasium No. 1 has again topped the Star Rating of Latvia’s schools capable of preparing internationally competitive students, LETA was told at the Atis Kronvalds Foundation which draws up the rating.

In 2020, Riga State Gymnasium No. 1 has scored 123 points, ensuring a strong lead in the rankings. Like last year, the Engineering High School (EHS) of Riga Technical University (RTU) is the runner-up with 16 points. 


Cesis State Gymnasium has placed third with 15 points in this year's Star Ratings and Nordic Gymnasium has been ranked fourth with the same score. Meanwhile, Gulbene State Gymnasium has made a steep climb in the rankings and placed fifth with nine points. 


Four schools, which have scored six points each, share 6th to 9th places: Priekule High School, Riga High School No. 10, Daugavpils State Gymnasium and Agenskalns State Gymnasium. Riga French Lyceum, Druva High School, Riga State Gymnasium No. 2 and Olaine High School No. 1 share the 10th to 13th places with four points each. Ventspils Gymnasium No. 1 has ranked 14th with three points. 


The Star Rating is drawn up based on students’ achievements at various international school Olympiads in the given year. This year, the rating is based on students’ performance in these competitions from June 1, 2019 to June 1, 2020.
