BC, Riga, 08.06.2020.Print version
The government coalition today reached a political agreement on raising wages for teachers from September 1, 2020, Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins (New Unity) told journalists following the weekly coalition cooperation meeting, referred LETA.

"We will support a pay rise for teachers starting September 1," the prime minister said, adding that the Cabinet will decide on the issue after all the necessary documents are prepared.

"There is a political agreement. Will will provide clarity as soon possible," Karins added.

Education and Science Minister Ilga Suplinska (New Conservative Party) said that the agreement provides for raising the minimum monthly wage for teachers to EUR 790.

As reported, confiscations of proceeds from crime have provided enough money to raise the teachers' wages from this September, the Finance Ministry's representative Jolanta Plume told members of the Saeima Budget and Finance (Taxation) Committee earlier.

LETA was told at the Finance Ministry that as at May 22, confiscations of proceeds from crime had provided EUR 32,251,096 to the state budget.
