Latvian education minister seen as most inept in handling finances

Majority of Latvians most certainly would not let Education and Science Minister Karlis Sadurskis (Unity) to handle their family budget, according to a public opinion poll carried out by SKDS pollster, reports LETA.

The respondents were asked to name three ministers of the government lead by Prime Minister Maris Kucinskis (Greens/Farmers) ZZS) whom they definitely would not entrust with managing their family budget. The majority or 14.4% named Sadurskis, 8.2% named Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics (Unity) and 7.6% Welfare Minister Janis Reirs (Unity).


Also, 6.8% declared their distrust in financial skills of Justice Minister Dzintars Rasnacs (National Alliance), 6.6% mentioned Transport Minister Uldis Augulis (Greens/Farmers), and 5.9 % Vice Prime Minister and Economics Minister Arvils Aseradens (Unity).


There were also 5.3% of respondents, who said they would not let Agriculture Minister Janis Duklavs (Greens/Farmers) to handle their family budget, 4.5% named Finance Minister Dana Reizniece-Ozola (Greens/Farmers), 3.3 % Health Minister Anda Caksa (Greens/Farmers), and 3.2 % Environment Protection and Regional Development Minister Kaspars Gerhards (National Alliance).


The ability of Interior Minister Rihards Kozlovskis (Unity) to deal with financial matters was doubted by 2.3% of respondents, while 1.9% and 1.6% respectively would not entrust Defense Minister Raimonds Bergmanis (Greens/Farmers) and Culture Minister Dace Melbarde (National Alliance) with their family budget.


The poll revealed slight differences in opinions of Latvian citizens and Latvian non-citizens. Latvian citizens mentioned Sadurskis, Rinkevics and Reirs as the three ministers whom they definitely would not entrust with their family budget but Latvian non-citizens named Rinkevics, Sadurskis and Aseradens.


The poll was carried out among 1,002 respondents
