Lithuania to finance studies of 67 foreign master's students in 2015

This year Lithuania will devote particular attention to the studies of Ukrainian students. Striving to promote transnational nature of studies and attract gifted foreigners to study in Lithuania, the state will provide support for the master's programmes. This year 67 foreign master's students will receive support to study in Lithuania. Ukrainian students were allocated 40 places in Lithuania's higher education establishments, informs LETA/ELTA.

Education and Science Minister Audrone Pitreniene has signed a decree on providing assistance.

 

"We are pleased to be able to offer Ukrainian youths an opportunity to study in Lithuania. Studies and ties that will be established will undoubtedly be beneficial for the successful future of our countries," the minister said. "In addition, this year students from Armenia and Uzbekistan will receive support for studies for the first time. We hope that Lithuania's higher education establishments will attract increasingly more foreign students".

 

The Ministry of Education and Science has announced that of the 67 foreigners who were accepted to Lithuanian universities 12 will receive grants while 55 will receive grants and payouts to cover for the cost of the studies. Grants and payouts were approved not only to 40 Ukrainians but also to 6 students from Belarus and 3 students from Moldova. Of the 12 students who will receive grants, 3 each are from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and China, 2 from Armenia and 1 from Uzbekistan.

 

In 2015, students from 9 countries and people of Lithuanian origin from third countries were able to apply for funding for master's studies in Lithuania.
