A study conducted in the United States reveals that plagiarism has been increasing among Latvian scientists, reports LETA, referring to TV3 News.

Education Minister Marite Seile's advisor Vjaceslavs Kascejevs says that the study focuses on the topic of plagiarism among scientists all over the world, and Latvia has been listed as a country where this phenomenon is especially widespread. Latvia is listed among various other countries, such as Bangladesh, Belarus, Moldova, Colombia, Pakistan, and others.

"We must help reveal those who find no guilt in practicing plagiarism and shaming the honor of Latvian scientists," Kascejevs said.

Meanwhile, member of the Latvian Academy of Sciences, Director of the Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis, Ivars Kalvins denied Kascejevs' statements, indicating that the possibilities of cheating are minimal.

"The possibilities to cheat or steal other scientists' works are minimal. It takes five minutes to identify plagiarism," the scientist said.
