Former LDz board chairman Berzins becomes executive director of branch of Ukrainian railway's service center

BC, Riga , 23.11.2020.Print version
Edvins Berzns, former board chairman of Latvijas Dzelzcels railway company, in October became the executive director of a branch of Ukrainian railway company Ukrzaliznicja's transport service center Liski, Ukrainian portal 368.media reported, cited LETA/BNS.

The Ukrainian media reminded that in 2019, Latvian Transport Minister Talis Linkaits (New Conservative Party) expressed no confidence in Berzins and two other members of the company's management board - Aivars Straksas and Ainis Sturmanis - and urged the company's supervisory board to remove them from their positions.

The Ukrainian portal said that Berzins received EUR 250,000 in compensation, but one of the conditions was that he may not work with Latvijas Dzelzcels competitors. As Ukrzaliznicja and Liski deal with reloading of transit cargos, they are direct competitors to Latvijas Dzelzcels.

A couple of weeks before Berzins took up the ne position, he established a company Win Win Transport Solutions in Ukraine. The new company provides storehouse services and services for railway transportation, and will be able to earn profit thanks to Berzins' new position.

Latvijas Dzelzcels is a fully state-owned enterprise managing public railway infrastructure. It is the leading company of the LDz Group, which includes six subsidiaries.
