First train with oil for Belarus to leave Klaipeda Thursday evening

The first train with Russian oil for Belarus, delivered by a tanker to Klaipeda on Wednesday, is expected to depart for the neighboring country on Thursday evening, reported LETA.

"The first train is planned to leave at around 10-11 p.m. today. It will transport some 3,600 tons of oil. The trip to the transfer point at the border will take about 15 hours," Martynas Burba, a spokesman for Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai (Lithuanian Railways), told LETA/BNS. 


According to him, two trainloads of some 3,600 tons each are to be transported from Klaipeda to the Belarusian border daily. It will take a total of 24 trains to ship the entire oil cargo.  It will reach the Naftan crude refinery in Novopolotsk within 10 to 12 days. 


The first tanker with Norwegian oil for Belarus arrived in Klaipeda in late January.

A total of two tankers with oil for Belarus are expected to arrive in Klaipeda in March, bringing 85,000 tons of crude each. 


Belarus' oil export company BNK told the Lithuanian state railway company that it expected the tankers to arrive on March 3-4 and March 13-15.
