Latvian president Vejonis had one-on-one with Belarus' Lukashenko in New York

Print versionPresident Raimonds Vejonis, at the recent United Nations' General Assembly in New York, had the opportunity to meet with Belarussian leader Alexander Lukashenko. During the talks, the two presidents focused on bilateral economic cooperation, informs LETA.

Vejonis, meeting in Riga today with the prime minister, told her about his U.S. trip, and what he had accomplished.
The General Assembly gathered "160 presidents and premiers", as Vejonis recounted: "Among them – Lukashenko, even though our meeting was unofficial, more like, an 'introduction held backstage'".
The Latvian president said that some key issues were on the table with Lukashenko – economic cooperation, transit.
Vejonis opined to reporters today after his meeting with Straujuma, that the EU will have to make a decision whether to continue its sanctions policy against Belarus, and, if it does continue – to what extent.
