BC, Riga, 09.10.2020.Print version
Considering the steep rise in new Covid-19 infections, the government today decided to impose harsher restrictions on gathering of people, allowing indoor events with up to 500 participants, and outdoor events with up to 1,000 participants, informs LETA.

Restrictions will come into force on October 10.

So far, indoor events were restricted to 1,000 people, and outdoor events to 3,000 people.

After long debates on the Riga Marathon, a decision was also made that from October 10 until December 31, it is not allowed to organize outdoor events with active people movement of more than 300 participants, such as running, marathons. Thus, the Riga Marathon planned for October 10-11, has been cancelled.

The government at an extraordinary meeting today adopted amendments to epidemiological measures in order to curb Covid-19 incidence.

Recently, the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) has registered a steep rise in Covid-19 incidence. On October 7, according to the European Center for Disease Prevention and Constrol (ECDC) data, Latvia's 14-day cumulative incidence was 33, which is almost twice as high as in the previous week, while the share of positive Covid-19 tests was 2.9%, which is much more than the earlier 1.7%.

According to data from epidemiological investigation, infection usually is contracted at workplaces, extracurricular activities, sports teams and families.

It is planned to restrict events related with high infection risks - indoor events related with unorganized movement of people, dancing, etc., when it is not possible to ensure the necessary distancing. Organized events may be held with fixed, personalized seats.

The restrictions will come into force as of tomorrow and will be in force until the end of December.

There are also several restrictions introduced in respect to organization of sports events, trainings, including in schools.
