In member states of the European Union (EU) and European Economic Area (EEA), as well as several other countries the cumulative 14-day incidence of Covid-19 is above 25 recorded cases per 100,000 residents, which means that Latvia should not restart air travel with these countries, according to estimates by the Center for Disease Prevention and Control informed LETA,

As Health Minister Ilze Vinkele (For Development/For) said earlier Latvia will consider resuming air travel with other countries based on the cumulative 14-day incidence of recorded cases, which must not exceed 25 cases per 100,000 residents.

The six EU countries where the Covid-19 incidence is still regarded as too high include Sweden, where the cumulative 14-day incidence is 74.7 cases per 100,000 residents, the UK with 65.9 cases per 100,000 residents, and Belgium with 41.5 cases per 100,000 residents.

Ireland's cumulative 14-day Covid-19 incidence is 40.6 cases per 100,000 residents, Portugal has registered 31.5 cases per 100,000 residents and Malta 25.6 cases per 100,000 residents.

Experts from the Center for Disease Prevention and Control do not recommend traveling to foreign countries, especially those where the cumulative 14-day figure is still above 25 and advises people to carefully assess coronavirus risks. Also, before going to any foreign country, people are advised to learn about the Covid-19 restrictions effective in the particular country.

The Center for Disease Prevention and Control also urges special caution when traveling to countries where the cumulative 14-day Covid-19 incidence is close to 25 per 100,000 residents. These countries include Spain (21) and Italy (20.1).

Meanwhile, the cumulative 14-day Covid-19 incidence is currently 19 cases per 100,000 residents in Luxembourg and Denmark, and 17.1 in the Netherlands and 16 in Romania.

In Finland, Poland and Germany the cumulative 14-day incidence is slightly below 15 cases per 100,000 residents.

In the three Baltic states, the cumulative 14-day incidence per 100,000 is quite similar - 6.1 cases in Latvia, 6 in Estonia and 5.9 in Lithuania.

Residents of the Baltic states are not required to self-isolate after crossing the Baltic states' internal borders.

The Latvian Center for Disease Prevention and Control has based its latest estimates and recommendations on coronavirus statistics released by the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control.
