Lithuanian PM in Prague: Ukraine, Georgia must be granted visa-free travels soon

The European Union (EU) should grant Ukraine and Georgia visa-free travels as soon as possible, Lithuania's Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius said at a meeting with Czech Parliamentary Speaker Jan Jamacek in Prague on May 24th, informs LETA/BNS.

"Ukraine and Georgia should be granted visa-free travels in the nearest future," the Lithuanian governmental press service cited the prime minister as saying.

 

According to the press release, Butkevicius and Hamacek discussed the Eastern Partnership policies, stressing that Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova should be provided full political and financial assistance on the path to the EU.

 

On Tuesday, Butkevicius also met with Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka and discussed the upcoming NATO summit in Warsaw. According to the press release, the heads of governments discussed the need to improve the measures of deterrence and defense.

 

The Lithuanian head of government also thanked for the Czech participation in the NATO air-policing mission, military training and exercises. In his words, Lithuania knows and appreciates the Czech contribution to Lithuania's defense.

 

"It is a reflection of true solidarity and readiness to overcome regional threats together," he stressed.

 

Butkevicius invited his Czech counterpart to pay a visit to Lithuania.
