The study reveals that 27% of all tourists either stay with their relatives and friends, or rent an apartment. "Up to 42% of visitors from Russia choose to not stay in hotels. The only official statistics about the number of tourists in Riga come from hotel registers, however, the study has found that the actual number of tourists is much higher, as those who choose to rent apartments or stay with their friends are not included in the official statistics," representative of the Riga Tourism Development Bureau, Vita Jermolovica said.

The average sum that a tourist spends in Riga is EUR 74.86 a day (excluding accommodation and transport costs). Tourists from Norway spend the largest sums – EUR 122.66 a day, followed by tourists from Belgium – EUR 100.59 a day. Lithuanians spend the least – EUR 48.01 a day.
