Environmental protection expenditure drops by nearly 40% in Lithuania in 2013

According to Statistics Lithuania, in 2013 compared with 2012, expenditure by companies on environmental protection decreased by 38.2% and stood at LTL 309.7 million (EUR 89.7 million), which accounted for 50% of all industrial enterprises' expenditure on environmental protection, informs LETA/ELTA.

Investment in ambient air protection reached LTL 57.9 million (EUR 16.8 million) and, compared with 2012, decreased by 21.7%. Investment in water resources' protection was LTL 209.7 million (EUR 60.7 million) or by 41.9% less.

 

Meanwhile, investment in waste collection and management stood at LTL 25.1 million (EUR 7.3 million) or by 48.8% less.

 

Investment by water collection, treatment and supply companies accounted for 69.7%, while by electricity, gas and steam supply, and air conditioning companies only for 9.8% of the total investment in environmental protection by industrial enterprises.

 

As regards manufacturing enterprises, producers of refined petroleum and food products invested in environmental protection the most – LTL 35.4 million (EUR 10.2 million).

 

This accounted for 56.4% of the total investment by the manufacturing industry in environmental protection.
