Over the past few months, consumption prices have been fluctuating in Latvia due to seasonality, hence in 2014, the average annual inflation will be under 1%, the Economy Ministry's spokesman Janis Salmins told the business portal Nozare.lv, cites LETA.

In September, compared to August, the average level of consumption prices increased by 0.5%, including prices of goods that increased 0.7% a month, while prices for services remained unchanged.

"September usually stands out with an increase in prices due to the new season. In September 2014, prices of apparel and footwear increased by 7.3% from August, which affected the total consumption price level by 0.4%," the ministry's expert explained.

Meanwhile, the prices of alcoholic beverages and tobacco influenced the average level of consumer prices by 0.1%.

"The fall in prices of food products had the largest effect on consumption prices in September – down by 0.1 percentage points. This was mainly due to a fall in prices of dairy products, meat products, and potatoes," Salmins said.
