Less than half, or 46% of economically active residents ages 18 to 55 say that they will be buying more Latvia-produced goods in wake of Russia's food embargo, according to a survey carried out by the TNS research company in collaboration with the LNT television, informs LETA/Nozare.lv.

17% of respondent said they would "definitely try" to buy more goods made by Latvian producers, and 29% said they "felt inclined to."

41% said that they "would not" be buying more Latvia-produced goods because of Russia's embargo, of which 23% said that they "probably" would not, and 18% said they would "definitely not" be buying more local goods and products.

13% had no opinion.

The survey was carried from August 19 to August 21, interviewing 650 residents of Latvia via the Internet.

As reported, on August 25 the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in cooperation with the advertising agency "DDB Latvia" and several business associations, launched a long-term campaign titled "Latvijas labums" (The Good of Latvia), which calls on residents to support the national economy by buying goods and products made in Latvia.

On August 7, Russia banned import of most food products from the European Union, United States and other Western countries that had adopted sanctions against Moscow. Russia's embargo concerns beef, pork, fruit, vegetables, poultry, fish, cheese, milk and dairy products.
