Number of births keeps growing in Latvia in 7 months

During the seven months of this year 12 488 newborns were registered in the country, which is 554 babies more than in the first seven months of 2013. Provisional data of the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia show that in July 2 019 babies were registered in the country, which is 94 newborns more than in July of the previous year (in June of this year – 1 813 newborns).

Not only the number of births is increasing in Latvia, but also the number of marriages is growing. In the seven months of this year there were 6 186 marriages registered in Latvia, which is 383 more than in the corresponding period of 2013. In July there were 1 966 marriages registered in Latvia, which is 13 more than in July 2013 (in June – 1 377 marriages).

 

In July the number of deaths has increased – 2 423 persons passed away, which is 271 person more than in July 2013 and 312 persons more than in June of this year. In seven months 16 747 persons deceased, which is 449 persons fewer than in the corresponding period of 2013.

Natural increase in Latvia still remains negative because the number of births does not exceed the number of deaths. In January – July 2014, as the number of deaths exceeded the number of births, the number of Latvian residents decreased by 4 259 (in the corresponding period of the previous year – by 5 262).


The number of population in Latvia on 01 August 2014 accounted for 1 million 994.3 thousand.
