Latvia records EU's fastest economic growth in Q2

Latvia registered the fastest economic growth in the European Union in the second quarter as compared to the first quarter of the year, whereas year-on-year Latvia had the second fastest economic growth among the EU member states for which data are available, according to the latest Eurostat report, cites LETA.

In the second quarter, Latvia's gross domestic product increased 1% from the first quarter.

 

Hungary and Great Britain recorded 0.8% increase in GDP each, whereas Lithuania's GDP grew 0.7%.

 

Estonia's economic growth was at 0.5%.

 

The EU economy increased 0.2% from the first quarter, whereas euro area's GDP remained unchanged.

 

Compared to the first quarter of 2013, the EU's economic growth reached 1.2%, the eurozone's – 0.7%.

 

Latvia's GDP increased 3.5%, the second highest increase across the EU.

 

Hungary's GDP grew the most, 3.7%. Poland recorded 3.2% growth, Great Britain – 3.1%, Lithuania – 3%. Estonia's GDP increased 2.5%, which was the seventh highest increase in the EU.
