39% youth evaluate job opportunities in Latvia as "poor"

39% of youth in Latvia believe that the possibilities of getting a job position that appeals to them, are "poor", according to a study conducted by the Youth Competence Center, cites LETA.

The lack of job opportunities and matters concerning salaries, are emphasized as the main reasons for youth emigration. Therefore, improvement of quality of life could be one of the strongest stimuli for re-emigration, the center representatives believe.

 

Only 16% of youth evaluate job opportunities in Latvia as "good", while 32% of youth believe that they would have better chance of finding an appealing job abroad.

 

72% of the surveyed youth, between 18 and 25 years of age, indicated that the lack of job opportunities in Latvia is one of the main reasons that causes them to emigrate. There are other reasons mentioned for emigration as well – low salaries and the general quality of life.

 

More than two-thirds of youth believe that by increasing the average salary in Latvia, Latvian youth diaspora living abroad, would return to Latvia. Other solutions include improving of job opportunities and the standard of living in Latvia.

 

The survey was carried out in collaboration with "SolidData". 500 respondents, ages 18 to 25 participated, picked randomly.
