Unemployment level in Latvia reduces to 9.1% in May

The registered unemployment level in Latvia in May 2014 reduced by 0.5% to 9.1% of the economically active population, informs LETA, referring to the State Employment Agency's data.

87,780 had the status of unemployed at end-May, which is by 4,230 persons less than the previous month.

 

The lowest unemployment rate was registered in Riga Region – 5.8%. Latgale Province had the highest unemployment rate – 19%.

 

The unemployment level in Zemgale Province is at 8.9%, Vidzeme Province – 10.4%, and Kurzeme Province – 11%.

 

Among Latvia's largest cities, Riga and Valmiera had the lowest unemployment rates – 5.5% and 6.7% respectively. The highest unemployment rate was recorded in Rezekne – 15.9%. The unemployment rate in Liepaja was at 13.6% at the end of May.
