KPMG: Estonia and Lithuania are the biggest EU support recipients in the region

Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania are still the most successful users of European Union structural funds in Central and Eastern Europe, Public Broadcasting cites a KPMG analysis, reported LETA.

The rate of paid support is the highest in Estonia and Lithuania, 59% of support projects covered with contracts, said KPMG Baltics OÜ.


KPMG Baltics OÜ advising service head Karin Rätsep explained that while Bulgaria is the most active in concluding contracts, where support sums are fully covered with contacts, the Baltic states are in the top regarding money that has been paid in reality.


In Latvia, 94% of support is covered with contracts, in Estonia and Lithuania 91% while the regional average is 83%.


The rate of paid support is highest in Estonia and Latvia with 59%, followed by the Czech Republic and Latvia with 57 and 56%. The average of Central and Eastern Europe is 44%.


While Poland has the biggest general EU support budget as its supports reach 67.2 billion euros in the current budgetary period, Estonia gets the largest amount per capita - 2,541 euros while the average of Central and Eastern Europe is 2,002 euros. The total sum of EU support to Estonia is 3.4 billion euros.
