87% Estonian adults consume alcohol, 34% smoke

The Estonian social ministry presented on Tuesday the Green Book of alcohol and tobacco policy which indicates that 87% of Estonian adults consume alcohol and 34.2% smoke, LETA/Delfi reports.

Beer and wine are the most widespread types of alcohol used. 15% of alcohol users drink beer a couple of times a week and 5% every day. 52% of alcohol consumers drink wine a couple of times a month. 4% of alcohol consumers drink vodka a couple of times a week or everyday.

 

The share of illegal alcohol was 6% of the total consumed alcohol in Estonia in 2011.


Absolute alcohol consumption per capita was 10.2 litres in 2011. The consumption per persons above the age of 15 was 12 litres.

 

34.2% of adults smoke. 26.2% are daily smokers which is close to EU's average of 25.6%.
