Unemployment level in Latvia drops to 10.7% in October

The registered unemployment level in Latvia was 10.7% of the economically-active population at the end of October 2012, 0.3% less than at the end of September, the State Employment Agency informed LETA.

108,322 people had the status of unemployed at the beginning of October, by the end of the month – 105,670.

 

In October, the lowest unemployment rate was registered in Riga Region – seven%, while Latgale Province (eastern Latvia) still had the highest unemployment level – 21.3%. In Kurzeme Province (western Latvia), unemployment was at 11.3%, in Zemgale Province (southern Latvia) – 11.8%, in Vidzeme Province (northeastern Latvia) – 12.8%.

 

Among the cities, Rezekne had the highest unemployment rate in October – 19.9%, while the lowest unemployment rate was in Riga – 6.7%, followed by Ventspils – 7.8%, Jelgava – 8%, Valmiera – 8.3%, Liepaja – 9.8%, Daugavpils – 10.5%, Jurmala – 10.9%, and Jekabpils – 15.4%.
