Number of occupied posts in Latvia rose by 18.5 thousand or by 2.3% in June y-o-y

In comparison with the end of June 2011, number of occupied posts in the country at the end of 2nd quarter of 2012 rose by 18.5 thousand or by 2.3%. In private sector number of occupied posts grew by 19.9 thousand or by 3.7%, while in public sector indicator diminished by 1.4 thousand or by 0.5%.
At the end of the 2nd quarter of 2012 there were 3217 job vacancies in the country. Compared to the end of the 1st quarter, their number has reduced by 136 thousand vacancies, whereas, in comparison with the end of the 2nd quarter of 2011, indicator has increased by 96 vacancies.
As compared to the 1st quarter of this year, share of job vacancies in the total number of jobs (job vacancy rate) has remained stable – 0.4%.
In public sector job vacancy rate has reduced from 0.7% at the end of the 1st quarter of 2012 to 0.6% at the end of the 2nd quarter of 2012, while in private sector this rate did not change and comprises 0.3%.

Explanations
In accordance with the survey methodology, job vacancy is defined as a post for which no contract has been signed and no candidate chosen and the employer is taking active steps to find a suitable candidate from outside the enterprise, and which will be filled immediately or within 3 months. The job vacancy rate is calculated in per cent, by dividing the number of job vacancies by the total number of posts (occupied + vacant).
The public sector includes central and local government institutions and commercial companies with central or local government capital participation 50% and over, public organisations and commercial companies thereof.
