The employment rate of Estonian women in the age of 20–64 gas been higher than EU average for the whole of the past decade, including economic recession years, when the employment of Estonian women fell much faster than the EU average.
Last year, 67.5% of 20-64-year old women participating at the labour market were employed.
Different from women, the employment rate of Estonian men was higher than EU average only during the economic boom of 2006–2008.
European employment strategy has set an aim of raising the employment rate of 20–64-year-olds to at least 75% by 2020. In Estonia it was 70.1% last year.
