Producer price in Latvian industry decreased by 0.4% in May

Compared to April, the overall level of producer prices in the Latvian industry in May 2012 decreased by 0.4%, according to the data of the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia. Compared to May 2011, the level of producer prices in the Latvian industry increased by 2.6%.

Equal price reduction (of 0.4%) was recorded both for products sold on the domestic market and for exported goods. The overall level of producer prices was mostly influenced by the price drop in the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (of 0.8%), in the manufacture of basic metals (of 2.1%), in the manufacture of food products (of 0.8%), as well as in the manufacture of wood and products of wood, except furniture (of 0.8%). In its turn, the increase of 2.0% in the mining and quarrying, of 0.8% in the manufacture of non-metallic mineral products, and of 1.0% in the manufacture of beverages had the most significant rising impact on the overall level of producer prices.


Producer price changes over the corresponding month of the previous year

Compared to May 2011, the overall level of producer prices in the Latvian industry in May 2012 increased by 2.6%. The prices of goods sold on the domestic market grew by 4.0%, whereas prices of exported products rose by 0.6%. The most notable price growth was recoded in the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (of 6.3%), in the manufacture of food products (of 1.7%), in the manufacture of non-metallic mineral products (of 6.5%), as well as in the mining and quarrying (of 8.0%).
