Industrial production output in Latvia decreased by 1.2% in April; annual growth – 3.8%

In April 2012 industrial production output (1) (at current prices) comprised LVL 428.7 million, according to the data of Central Statistical Bureau. In comparison with March 2012, industrial production output in April 2012 has decreased by 1.2%, but compared to April of previous year, it has increased by 3.8%.

In comparison with March 2012, industrial production output in April 2012 (according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices) has decreased by 1.2%, of which in manufacturing by 1.4%, in electricity and gas supply – by 1.7%, whereas in mining and quarrying there was a growth of 4.1%.

Compared to April of previous year, industrial production output in April 2012 at constant prices has increased by 3.8%, according to calendar adjusted data. Of which in mining and quarrying – by 27.9%, in manufacturing – by 8.5%, while in electricity and gas supply there was a decrease of 11.8%.


Most notable rise in manufacturing sector was observed in repair and installation of machinery and equipment – 2.2 times, in other manufacturing (manufacture of medical and dental instruments and supplies, manufacture of games and toys, manufacture of sports goods etc.) – of 42.4%, as well as in manufacture of chemicals and chemical products – of 30.6%. Whereas reduction was observed in manufacture of other transport equipment (building of ships and boats, manufacture of railway locomotives and rolling stock) – of 50%, in manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations – of 15.4%, and in manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products – of 10.6%.
