Portrait of an average Estonian woman compiled

To mark the upcoming mothers' day, the Estonian Statistical Office compiled a portrait of an average Estonian woman, who is educated and works, leaves parental home earthly and is a mother of 1 or 2 children, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

According to the Statistical Office, 56% of 15-74-year old Estonian women worked and 12% looked for work in 2011. The employment of women has been higher than EU average for the past decade. Women work more in trade and services, healthcare and education.

 

When there are children below the age of 7 years in the family, women spend nearly 6 hours a day, by nearly 1.5 hours more than men, on household and family. In ten years, the time has fallen by 39 minutes, mainly since less time is needed for cooking, washing clothes and ironing.

 

Women have 5.5 hours of leisure time a day, 34 minutes more than ten years ago. Women like to spend the added free time at the computer.

 

Speaking of hobbies of women, 71% of people practicing of folk culture are women. Women spend a bit more time on sports and passive leisure than ten years ago. Time spent on shopping hasn't increased in ten years.

 

While there are a bit more boys than girls among basic school pupils, 60% of university students are women.

 

Women leave their parents home to live on their own at the age of 23, which is earlier than the European average of 24–26 years.

 

An Estonian woman gets married on average at the age of 25–27 years. The average age when the first child is born is 26 years. Mostly there are 1 or 2 children in the family. The average size of Estonian households is 2.3 members, below the European average of 2.5 members.

 

As of January 1, 2012, the average Estonian woman was 44 years old, 165 cm tall and weighed 69 kg. An average woman in the age of 15-44 was 167 cm tall and weighed nearly 65 kg and woman older than 44 years was 163 cm tall and weighed 73 kg.
