Construction volume in EU grew by 0.2% in November

In November 2011, construction volume in the European Union increased by 0.2%, compared to the respective month in 2010, according to the EU's statistical office Eurostat.

Construction volume in the eurozone rose 0.7%.

Among the countries for which data are available, construction volume fell in eight member states and grew in six, reports LETA.

Construction volume increased in Romania – 16.9%, Poland – 14.7%, and Germany – 9.9%. The steepest decrease was recorded in Portugal – 12.2%, Bulgaria – 10.2%, and Slovenia – 10%.

Compared to October 2011, construction volume in the EU grew 0.4%, and in the eurozone – 0.8%.

Monthly reductions were registered in three countries – Spain and Slovakia – 0.7% each, and Bulgaria – 0.3%.

Meanwhile, monthly increases were recorded in 11 countries. The steepest ones – in Slovenia – 23.1%, Hungary – 7.4%, and Germany – 4.5%.

As reported, information on construction volumes Estonia, Ireland, Greece, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania and Malta in November 2011 is not available, as these member states present their data not on monthly, but quarterly basis.

In the third quarter of 2011, construction volume in Latvia increased 15.1%, compared to the previous quarter of the year.

On the other hand, compared to the third quarter of 2010, construction volume grew 19.6%.
