Unemployment in Latvia 5.7%, in Lithuania – 4.6%, in Estonia – 4%

The average seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate in the European Union's (EU) 27 member states was 6.8% this past July. The unemployment rate in Latvia was 5.7%, in Lithuania – 4.6%, in Estonia – 4%, according to data published by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Communities.

In July, the lowest unemployment rates were registered in Denmark – 2.3%, the Netherlands – 2.6%, Cyprus – 3.7%, Estonia – 4%, Luxembourg, Austria and Slovenia – all 4.2%, and Lithuania – 4.6%.

The highest unemployment rates were registered in Spain – 11%, Slovakia – 10.3%, Greece – 7.8%, Hungary – 7.6%, and Portugal – 7.5%, informs LETA from Luxembourg.

 

In the last 12 months time the unemployment rate went down in 20 EU countries, increased in six and remained the same in one. The highest increase was registered in Spain, reaching 11%, comparing with 8.2% a year ago and in Ireland: from 4.6 to 5.9% this year. The largest decrease was observed in Poland – from 9.5% to 6.8%, and Denmark – from 4.1 to 2.3%.

 

In July, the unemployment rate was 5.7% in the United States and 4.1% in Japan.
