Unemployment in Estonia grew by 40.7% in July 2008

This is 40.7% more than at the same time last year, writes EPL Online.
The number of unemployed persons formed 2.8% of labour force from age 16 until pension age and 2.1% of the population of working age from age 16 until pension age.
In comparison to the end of June, the number of registered unemployed was higher by 1,185 – i.e. by 7%.
20,065 unemployed persons were looking for work via the Labour Market Board. In July 921 unemployed persons found work and 3,531 were registered as newly unemployed.
Registered unemployment was highest in the Valga County (5.9% of labour force), in the Võru County (5.4%) and in Ida-Viru County (5.1%). It was the lowest in the Tartu County (1.7%).
During the month of June the Labour Market Board had 6,352 job offers to mediate, on August 1 there were 5,029 vacancies.
