Registered unemployment level in Latvia in December remained at 14.3%

The registered unemployment level in Latvia in December 2010 was 14.3%, the same as in November, according to information from the State Employment Agency (SEA).

Currently 162,463 people are registered as out of work, compared to 161,816 persons out of work at the beginning of December. The number of registered unemployed persons has increased by 647 since the beginning of December, writes LETA.

 

The lowest unemployment rate is in Riga Region – 10.9%, whilst the highest is in Latgale Province (eastern Latvia) – 22.3%.

 

The unemployment level in Latvia's largest cities is as follows: Riga – 9.9%, Ventspils (northwestern Latvia) – 12%, Jelgava (central Latvia) – 10.9%, Daugavpils (southeastern Latvia) – 12.2%, Jurmala – 13.5%, Liepaja (southwestern Latvia) – 16.6%, and Rezekne (eastern Latvia) – 23%.

 

The SEA database showed 2,259 current job vacancies at the end of December.
