Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite evaluated the year 2010 as financially and morally difficult, however, according to the head of the state, the most difficult period is almost over.

"The year 2010 was a difficult year for Lithuania, as for many European countries. I think we managed relatively painful, but well. Lithuania withstood the financial crisis, we managed to pay pensions, salaries, people were ensured they will have food and receive salaries. It was a financially and morally difficult year," Dalia Grybauskaite said in an interview to Ziniu Radijas on Wednesday.

The head of the state said she saw the future in much brighter colors. "The darkest period, I believe, is passing away. It is 2009-2010. I really see that it will get better. Lithuania is really recovering," Grybauskaite said.

The president welcomed the adoption of stricter laws aimed at fight against corruption, shadow economy, however she admitted that not everything was done this year, writes LETA/ELTA.

"I am delighted that some of the laws were adopted – stricter laws for fight against corruption, shadow economy. We will see the result of their implementation only next year. (&). There is and there was a lot of work to do, some was carried out faster, some slower, especially, when not everything depends on the president, when it is necessary to adopt, discuss or implement laws, when it is necessary to work with the Seimas or the Government. Not everything is going as fast as I would like it to go. I wish the result to be faster, but the state itself and people have a lot of inertia, fear to change something, to take risks," Grybauskaite said.
