There is an impression that the salaries' cuts are lower in the public sector in Lithuania because doctors' salaries were not cut and the salaries of teachers even increased, says Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius.

Andrius Kubilius.

"Last year the Government and the Seimas was reducing civil servants' salaries in the public sector. Over the year, their salaries were reduced by almost 10%. However, the salaries of teachers or doctors, who also belong to public sector, were not cut last year. And teachers' salaries even increased," Andrius Kubilius said in an interview to Ziniu Radijas on Thursday.

President Dalia Grybauskaite noted that there were no big savings in the public sector, writes LETA/ELTA.

"Comparing the cuts in salaries in public and private sectors, a big difference can be seen. (&). There were no big cuts in the public sector. Other countries are saving much more," President Dalia Grybauskaite said in an interview to Lithuanian TV programme "Savaite".

"Speaking about the entire public sector, the overall reduction in salaries is certainly lower in than in the private sector, because of the fact that the doctors' salaries were not cut and the salaries of teachers' were even increased. However, in the civil service, for which the Government is responsible directly, the salaries were reduced. (&)," said Kubilius.
