Juhan Tere, BC, Tallinn, 16.05.2008.Print version
Unemployment rate decreased to a record low level of 4.7 per cent in 2007, disclosed the economic overview of the year 2007 published by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications on Friday.

Employment rate grew due to strong domestic demand in the first half of the year 2007, mostly in the closed sector – in financial mediation, construction, hotels and restaurants and in the real estate sector, writes Postimees Online

The number of people working in construction grew by 73,000 in the beginning of 2007 to 82,000 by the end of the year, forming more than ten per cent of the total number of employed individuals.

The number of discouraged unemployed persons (who did not hope to find any work) remained low in 2007 and employment rate among non-Estonians increased.
