Lithuanians pay more for some food products online than other Europeans, survey finds

"If we compare multinational brands sold in EU countries, Lithuania is not a cheap country," Deputy Justice Minister Irma Gudziunaite said as she presented the results of the survey.
"Our prices for the majority of popular products are similar to those in Western Europe and only 5-6% below the EU average. Sometimes we pay more for individual products," she said.
The survey shows that product prices in Lithuania are approaching the EU average at a fast rate.
It compared prices for 40 different food products, mostly of multinational brands, on online stores of grocery chains in 12 EU member states, including Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany, Italy, France, Belgium, the United Kingdom and Ireland.
Ireland had the highest prices for the products surveyed and Poland had the lowest prices.
Arunas Vizickas of Pricer.lt, which carried out the survey, said they decided to survey online prices because it was much cheaper than comparing in-store prices.
In Lithuania, the company surveyed prices on the Barbora online store.
