Unemployment level in Latvia stays at 6.4% in June

The registered unemployment level in Latvia was at 6.4% of the economically active population at the end of June this year, or unchanged from May, according to the State Employment Agency's data, informs LETA.

At the end of June 2018, there were 59,119 unemployed persons registered with the State Employment Agency, down by 429 people from a month ago.


The lowest unemployment rate was registered in the Riga region - 4.2%, up 0.1% age point month-on-month, while the highest level was in the Latgale province in eastern Latvia - 14.9%, down 0.5% age points.


Unemployment in the Zemgale province in southern Latvia was 5.9%, down 0.1% age point from May 2018. The jobless rate in Vidzeme, north-eastern Latvia, also decreased 0.1% age point to 6.5% in June, while the unemployment level in the Kurzeme province in western Latvia was 7.1%, unchanged from May.


In the Latvian capital Riga, the unemployment rate was 4% at the end of June this year compared to 3.9% in May.


At the end of May 2018, the registered unemployment rate in Latvia was 6.4%.
