Estonia's material, social deprivation rate among lowest in EU

Of residents of Estonia 7.7% suffer from material and social deprivation, which is among the lowest such ratios in the European Union, Eurostat said on December 12th. In Latvia and Lithuania, the ratios were respectively 24.8% and 28.9%, reports LETA/BNS.
Last year, 15.7% of the EU population, or 75 million people, suffered from
material and social deprivation.
The Nordic EU member states and Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Austria
reported the lowest shares of material and social deprivation: 2.9% in Sweden,
4.2% in Finland, 4.8% in Luxembourg, 6.1% in Denmark, 6.5% in the Netherlands
and 7% in Austria.
In 2016, the highest material and social deprivation rate, applying to
about half of the population, was registered in Romania, 49.7%, and Bulgaria,
47.9%, followed by Greece at 35.6%.
