Unemployment in Latvia decreased to 6.9% in August

In late August 2017, registered unemployment in Latvia reached 6.9%, declining 0.2 percentage points from a month before, LETA learned from the State Employment Agency.
The number of people registered with the State Employment Agency as jobless
decreased by 1,837 over the month, from 65,554 people at the beginning of
August to 63,717 at the end of the month.
The lowest unemployment rate, 4.4%, was recorded in Riga region, while the
highest jobless rate, 16%, was recorded in the eastern Latvian province of
Latgale. Also, joblessness was at 7.5% in Kurzeme, 7.4% in Vidzeme and 6.3% in
Zemgale.
In August, 4,379 registered jobless people found permanent jobs. At the end
of August, there were 11,791 vacancies registered with the State Employment
Agency.
