Latvian entrepreneurs have started working longer hours

Entrepreneurs in Latvia work eight hours and five minutes a day on average as compared to seven hours and 56 minutes a day in the fall of 2016, the latest Citadele Index survey shows, informs LETA.

The average length of entrepreneurs’ working hours differs depending on the region. Entrepreneurs in Riga work the longest hours - eight hours and 28 minutes a day on average, with 48% of them devoting more than eight hours a day to work. In Kurzeme entrepreneurs work eight hours and 25 minutes a day, with 53% of them working more than eight hours a day.

 

In Pieriga (Riga Region) and Vidzeme entrepreneurs work even hours and 36 minutes on average, in Latgale – seven hours and 32 minutes, and in Zemgale – seven hours and four minutes, with only 32% of entrepreneurs there putting in more than eight hours a day.

 

The Citadele Index also shows that 58% of entrepreneurs in Latvia had worked on weekends during the past month. The%age of entrepreneurs working on weekends was 68% in the services sector and 48% in the trade sector. Also, 55% of the surveyed entrepreneurs involved in manufacture and 49% in construction admitted to working on weekends.

 

Owners and executives of large companies are more likely to work on weekends, as 79% of entrepreneurs heading companies with more than 50 employees said they had worked on weekends as compared to 58% of entrepreneurs representing smaller businesses.

 

The Citadele Index is based on a survey of 750 company owners and business executives, representing firms of different sizes doing business in different industries. SKDS pollster carries out the survey for Citadele Bank.
